2009 – Week 6

First Things First

As Eddie Royal proved last night, contributions on special teams can really give a player value. That’s why the Raiders player in this video should be high on your pick-up list for the week. He can really fly!
Speaking of Eddie Royal, read on to find out why he’s Jim Rieke least favorite player in the NFL right now! Hint: the NFL retained some unbeaten records, but Hiawatha FFL did not. Oh the suspense!

We’ll start in the League of Champions, where the top spot has a sole possessor after a wild week. Here are the scores:
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 106
Russ’ Rowdy Rhinos (Russ) – 122
Pacifist Assassins (John) – 113
The Alchemists (Chris T.) – 76
Grandma Nancy (Tyler) – 111
Please Have Mercy (Eric) – 96
Mightiest Muffins (Mike) – 76
Rusty Shackelford (Aaron) – 97
The Bone Doctors (Chris W.) – 60
Taking Chances (Wayne) – 89
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 75
The Tortilla Chips (Darren) – 85
Let’s start with Tyler, who proved he’s still the team to beat and took broke up the tie for the top spot by overcoming a strong showing by Eric’s squad. Last week’s co-leader, Mike, took a 21 point loss courtesy of Aaron. The Commish suffered a tough loss in spite of Brady’s 39 points and that tie is doing him no favors! Andy continues to search for win #1 and John continues to storm back into contention.

Monday Night (Phil) – 104
diddy (Jim) – 96
Marshmallow Mateys (Cory) – 115
Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 97
Dead Heads (Nate) – 85
Stalins of Style (Chris A.) – 94
Egon’s Ego (Bernt) – 61

Kibbles & Vick (Frank) – 109
Killer Canaries III (Bob) – 101
Wyld Stallyns CS (Dave) – 82
KRUG Kommanders (Denny & Isaac) – 53
The story of the week in this league is diddy losing to Monday Night on Monday night. Phil used two special teams TDs from Eddie Royal to come from behind and take down the last undefeated team! Amazing. With Kibbles and the Mateys also winning, there’s a 3-way tie for first! The Nimrods won their first game and leapfrogged over the Canaries and out of the basement. The Canaries had a tough week, scoring 101 in a losing effort (with Welker’s 27 points on the bench). Meanwhile, the Stallyns left 41 points on their bench and still managed to win.

I quickly calculated the average points per week that teams are scoring. This might be more helpful than the “projected points” when looking at upcoming matchups. Basically, if you want to beat Jim, you need to score more than 105 points, which Phil did. If you want to beat Mike Devereaux, you need to score more than 87, which Aaron did.
Team of the Week
Hard to argue against Phil taking the honors this week. Eddie Royal had zero catches for zero yards on 4 targets on offense, but had TWO special teams touchdowns which was enough to top Jim by 8 points. Unbelievable!
Housekeeping
There are six teams on byes this week! So work those waiver wires and trade blocks if you need to! The teams taking up couch space this week will be Denver, Detroit, Tennessee, Seattle, Jacksonville and Baltimore.
Until Next Week,
Commish Peter
