First Things First
While the Vikings suffered yet another crushing defeat due to offensive impotence, the NFL’s only undefeated team also lost – meaning that no team went 4-0 this year! It seems that the league is as wide open as it’s ever been. The other big story of the weekend was injuries. A number of big players missed games this week or were injured this week. The Packers are particularly dinged up right now. But maybe more players need to man up and play through the pain. On Saturday, a player from Virginia Tech had the tip of his finger severed during their game after it was caught between two colliding helmets. He had the finger stitched up, the tip put on ice and then he went back in to play the remainder of the game! Now that’s dedication.
The NFL’s parity is still trickling down into the fantasy leagues. While the PL has a boatload of 3-2 teams, the LoC has a logjam at 2-3. But could fantasy’s only undefeated team shake off the Chiefs example and stay undefeated? Also, Randy Moss is back in purple and was traded after the Vikes bye week, meaning he’ll play 17 games this year! Moss owners are spared one week of scrambling for a replacement! Lucky.
League of Champions
The LoC was home to the one undefeated team and one winless team. Only one would reverse their trend. Here are the scores:
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 104
Nana Nancy Unit (Tyler) – 101
Russ’ Rhino Revenge (Russ) – 62
we’re coming (Wayne) – 88
Super-lative Muffins (Mike) – 60
Wyld Stallyns (Dave) – 121
diddy (Jim) – 88
Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 99
Marshmallow Mateys (Cory) – 74
Reckless Abandon (Darren) – 60
OMG Ponies!!! (Nate) – 71
KRUG Kommander (Denny) – 112
So there you have it! The Stallyns notch their first win of the year! Mike’s vacation plans crimped his lineup and left him with a concussed QB in Cutler and a defense with a bye week. Still, Dave’s 121 would have beaten anybody this week. Elsewhere, the Limbs continue their winning ways with a fifth straight win after edging out Nana by 3! Beer Boys are storming back from a shaky start and have won two straight putting them in sole possession of 4th place by virtue of that early tie. KRUG and the Mateys are showing that they belong in the upper tier of teams. Both grabbed strong wins this week and moved to 4-1. The Ponies could be in trouble, but with six teams at 2-3, anything can happen. we’re coming picked up a solid win over Revenge and now both teams are part of that 2-3 pack. We’ll have to wait until next week to see if one of these teams can separate itself from the field!
And the Limbs remain the only undefeated team in Hiawatha FFL Universe!
The PL’s only undefeated team lost last week, so the parity continues. Would anyone put together a signature win and show they have what it takes to be the toast of the town? Here are the scores:
Carl’s Moustache (Aaron) – 91
Blackhearts (Jon) – 67
Monday Night (Phil) – 99
Zack Attack (Bernt) – 115
Careless Blimpists (Chris A.) – 90
Cutlass Cieras (Chris W.) – 94
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 55
Pacifist Assassins (John) – 101
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 123
The Alchemist (Chris T.) – 50
Tony Danza Dominates (Eric) – 94
quitters (Tom) – 77
Carl’s Moustache is the undisputed top team after beating the Blackhearts this week. The Blackhearts have now lost 2 in a row after winning their first 3. The presumptive team to beat after week one, Careless Blimpists, are struggling at 2-2-1 after a close loss to the Cieras! Zack Attack looked like just another lower tier team until this week when they put up 115 points (thanks in large part to Matt Forte) at beat a strong Monday Night squad. Other offensive explosions were seen from the Assassins (who demolished Nerd Herd who got zero points from his WRs) and Fumblecopter (who dismantled The Alchemist whose highest scoring player was his kicker [10 points]. Ouch.). quitters scored a decent 77 points, but ran into the highest scoring team in either league in Tony Danza and lost. Valiant effort.
Current PL Standings:
So other than Carl’s Moustache, no team has really distinguished themselves yet, though Tony Danza looks ready to make some noise.
Team of the Week
Wyld Stallyns! It’s crazy that the second highest scoring team in the LoC had to wait until week 5 to get their first win! Sure there was a tie in there too, but the Stallyns have had their share of bad luck. Not this week. This week exploded with 121 points. Dave probably would have liked to bank some of those points for a week when his opponent had a full team on the field, but I’m sure he’ll take the win any way he can get it. Congrats, Dave!
Injuries are often tough to figure out. Will Rodgers be able to go this week? While that may be murky, bye weeks are always clear as Crystal Pepsi (unless you’re a Randy Moss owner). Luckily, unlike week 5, this week’s bye week teams are all mostly devoid of good fantasy players. Here are the teams off this week: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Arizona and Carolina. Get Max Hall out of your lineups!
Now let’s go play angry against those accursed Cowboys.
Until Next Week,
