First Things First
It was a weekend to forget for Vikings fans, unless you were one of the throng calling for Childress to be issued a pink slip. Seriously though, Chilly won’t need to get a BK job since he’s still due $6.6M on this contract extension from last year. In any case, the Packers have now gotten two coaches fired: Wade Phillips and Brad Childress. Childress was blamed for all the Vikings failings so far this year, even this one:
But now we’ll see if he was really the weakest link in an otherwise strong chain.
It was also a weekend to forget for the Manning brothers, who combined for 6 INTs on Sunday. Peyton even did his best #4 impersonation and threw a pick on a potential game tying/winning drive at the end.
Double Manning! What does it mean?
With all the underperforming teams and players, there were definitely some big points to be had as well. Some teams really cashed in this week and with the playoffs now only two weeks away, they picked a good week to step up.
League of Champions
The hottest team in the LoC took a loss this week and coldest team…well…they took a loss too. Here are your scores:
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 126
KRUG Kommander (Denny) – 99
Russ’ Rowdy Rhinos (Russ) – 97
Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 100
Super-lative Muffins (Mike) – 88
Reckless Abandon (Darren) – 69
Wyld Stallyns (Dave) – 105
OMG Ponies!!!! (Nate) – 108
we’re coming (Wayne) – 74
Marshmallow Mateys (Cory) – 99
Nana Nancy Unit (Tyler) – 98
diddy (Jim) – 35
The Stallyns 6 game winning streak is over! Snapped by the Ponies. Dave was relying on Phillip River to win it for him, but Nate had Mike Tolbert and was able to hold the lead. That loss drops the Stallyns from 3rd to 5th in the standings. KRUG’s losing streak has now hit 6 games as he had no answer for the scoring juggernaut that is the Phantom Limbs (over 100 for the 3rd straight week). The Rhinos and the ‘Boys were fighting it out until the very end, but the Beer Boys squeaked by with a 3 point win. Hyatt’s team could end up as the most dangerous 6th seed ever. The Muffins notched their fourth straight win and have moved up to 3rd place (meaning they would face the ‘Boys if the season ended today). Reckless have now lost 4 straight and have the 2nd most points scored against them. The Mateys clinched their playoff spot by handily defeating we’re coming and look to have righted the ship after two straight losses. And diddy’s team had a Vikings-esque week, scoring only 35 points and getting mauled by Nana Nancy. Normally a perennial contender, Jim’s team has had a tough go of it this year.
Current LoC Standings:
With two games to go in the regular season, the Rhinos and the Ponies are just below the cut and looking for a couple of wins to get in.
Over in the Premier League, points were being scored in bunches all over the place and four teams have now clinched playoff spots! That leaves only two more spots open and sets up a crazy end to the season. There are storylines all over the place this week. Scores:
Carl’s Moustache (Aaron) – 72
Pacifist Assassins (John) – 108
Monday Night (Phil ) – 95
quitters (Tom) – 142
Careless Blimpists (Chris A.) – 124
The Alchemist (Chris T.) – 44
The Cutlass Cieras (Chris W.) – 121
Tony Danza Dominates (Eric) – 116
Blackhearts (Jon) – 82
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 99
Zack Attack (Bernt) – 100
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 81
Momentum is everything this late in the year and Carl’s Moustache is in trouble. In losing to the Assassins, Aaron’s team dropped out of first place for the first time this year all the way to 3rd. The Assassins have now won a remarkable 8 straight and sit atop the league. The Cutlass Cieras are the other momentum team, winning their 4th straight and climbing into 2nd place. They did so by beating another strong team, Tony Danza Dominates, in a thrilling shootout! The cardiac quitters are giving their fanbase palpitations this year. This week they put up and astonishing 142 points and beat up Monday Night. That win puts them (I can’t believe I’m typing it) within reach of a playoff spot! Absolutely incredible. The Blimpists are pushing hard for their playoff spot and were seen running up the score on the lowly Alchemist this week. Are they trying to intimidate the other upper tier teams? Fumblecopter rebounded from a loss last week and beat the Blackhearts, clinching a playoff spot in the process. Believe me, no one wants to meet Fumblecopter in the first round. And after a big win last week, the Nerd Herd was beaten by Zack Attack. Zack leapfrogs the Herd in the standings, but it appears these teams will duke it out in the Toilet Bowl this year.
Current PL Standings:
So only two playoff spots remain and the quitters and Blackhearts need to win out and get some help to make it in. They have their sights set on the Blimpists and Danza, but they’ll need to be careful as they give chase not to hurt themselves.
Again, check out the attached file for the composite standings to see how the leagues compare to each other.
Team of the Week
This is a tough week for this award. It could go to any number of teams, but I’m going to give it to the Pacifist Assassins for the 2nd time this season. The Assassins 8 game winning streak cannot be ignored. Plus, taking down the team who’s held first place in the PL since day 1 is quite a feat. The ascension is complete and the Assassins are the best team in the PL after an 0-3 start. And now they are a 2-time HFFUBTotW. A 2tHFFUBTotW.
For the record:
HFFUBTotWs by Week:
Week 1 – The Careless Blimpists
Week 2 – TIE – The Cutlass Cieras and Carl’s Moustache
Week 3 – Carl’s Moustache*
Week 4 – Tony Danza Dominates
Week 5 – Wyld Stallyns
Week 6 – The Phantom Limbs
Week 7 – The Marshmallow Mateys
Week 8 – Pacifist Assassins
Week 9 – Fumblecopter
Week 10 – Nerd Herd
Week 11 – Pacifist Assassins*
It’s Thanksgiving Week! And that means there are THREE Thursday games this week! So if you’re heading out of town, make sure to check out your lineups before you brave the ice and snow. Don’t let your playoff hopes be dashed due to a national holiday and a snowstorm! This is serious business! Unless you’re the Bills.
Until Next Week,
