2011 – Week 9

blast logo.jpg

Around this point in the season, good teams are starting to realize that they may have a legitimate shot at the title. This can be dangerous. Of course, other teams are starting to realize that they have no shot.
That is the face of someone in the latter category.
In the Hiawatha leagues, the difference between these two groups is beginning to come into focus. But the Shanahans still have hope! Remember that even the team that winds up in last place in the regular season can still punch a ticket to the LoC if they win out! I’ll give a refresher on the playoff system this week. But first…

League of Champions logo.jpg
It was a HUGE week of games in the LoC. The top two teams faced off in a possible super bowl preview while the middle of the pack teams duked it out for separation at the 6 spot. Here are the scores:
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 130
Nana Nancy Unit (Tyler) – 74
JAWS (Dave) – 92
The Almighty Muffins (Mike) – 112
Marshmallow Mateys (Cory) – 104
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 110
Pacifists (John) – 95
Cutlass Cieras (Chris W.) – 54
Monday Night (Phil) – 69
Suck for Luck 2012 (Aaron) – 85
KRUG Kommandant (Denny) – 93
Mr T Fool! (Eric) – 67
And the Matey’s reign of terror is over! Allowing 100+ points for the first time this year, the Mateys fell to Fumblecopter, putting Andy’s team back on top. But he’s not alone. The top record is a 3 way tie with with the Mateys and KRUG. KRUG is the hottest team right now with a 4 game win streak after beating Mr. T this week! The tide may be changing in the lower half of the standings! The Limbs put together a HUGE week and beat Nana Nancy by 56 thanks to Julio Jones’ big coming out party. The Muffins and the Pacifists have been neck in neck all season and that’s not changing. The Muffins notched a big win against JAWS this week while the Pacifists were able to humble the Cieras. And finally, Aaron Winter returned to town this week as a new dad and let Amelia set his roster for him. Result: win #1 on the year! Congrats to the Suck for Luck 2012!!!!

The drama surrounding that 6th spot isn’t going away any time soon.

The PL boasts the hottest team in either league with a 6 game winning streak! Plus, there were many close game with play off implications. Here are your scores:
Mean Regressors (Chris A.) – 84
a couple 13 14 wins (Wayne) – 106
sasquatches r real! (Darren) – 121
Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 114
Waffle Housers (Nate) – 93
Glass Joe (Bernt) – 91
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 70
McChamps (Tom) – 85
Blackhearts (Jon) – 92
The Russell (Russ) – 86
The Alchemist (Chris T.) – 79
diddy (Jim) – 68
Glass Joe game the Housers everything they could handle, but the streak would not be broken! Nate’s team is now tied for for the top spot with the Alchemist, who got back to his winning ways at the expense of diddy. The Beer Boys would be right there too, but the sasquatches put together a HUGE game and stole the win! The ‘quatches were one of the 4-4 teams that managed to win and put themselves in position for a playoff spot. Also winning were the Blackhearts, breaking the hearts of Russell fans everywhere with a narrow win! The McChamps pulled together a win as well, beating the Nerd Herd. The Mean Regressors ran into a buzzsaw with Wayne’s team this week and remain in the cellar. Talk about getting kicked when you’re down.

At least the 6 line is clear at this moment. But that won’t last long I’m sure.

team of the week logo.jpg
Suck for Luck 2012!!! Aaron got his first win this week! The same week he brought his daughter home. The week his daughter was born, he got his first non-loss – a tie. It seems that the tide is turning for this team! A run into the LoC is not out of the question!

The big news of the week is that we have our first Thursday game of the season! Oakland and San Diego will play this Thursday, so have your rosters set by then if those team figure in. But no bye week to consider this week!
I wanted to outline the playoff system once again as a refresher. The top 6 teams in each league will be in the playoffs and the bottom 6 in each league will be in the “Toilet Bowl” tournament. Each will play out the bracket. The team that loses out in the playoffs, will drop to the PL next year. The team that win it all in the Toilet Bowl will move up. What it amounts to is that, in the final standings on the year, the 6th and 7th place teams will flip. Make sense? So even if you finish dead last, you can win yourself a ticket into the LoC next year! And even if you look strong going into the playoffs, you could still end up like this:

Until Next Week,
Commish Peter
