2011 – Week 10

We had a great turnout at the Men’s Night last night to watch the writing of a bloody chapter in the annals of the Border Battle. Memories were made, food was eaten and Andy found $50 in his cookie. As Aaron said, it was another Men’s Night Miracle!
It ended late, I almost forgot who won or lost.
Oh that’s right, you did, scary guy. Well, at least the Gophers elbow dropped the Badgers on Saturday.
Oh, they lost the game too? Scoreboard, schmoreboard. Moral victories are all we have in Minnesota and, darn it, we’re going to like it. Still, we’d take even an ugly win at this point. I never thought I’d be jealous of the Seahawks this season, but they beat the Ravens in spite of a few mistakes:
That’s a win that brings some respectability to an underwhelming season.
In the Hiawatha leagues, we actually have playoff clinches this week in the LoC! But the PL is still, technically, up for grabs! Let’s break it down:

League of Champions logo.jpg
It was a Tale of Two Tiers this week in the LoC, with the top guns rolling along and the wannabes taking some big losses. Here are your scores:
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 54
KRUG Kommandant (Denny) – 102
JAWS (Dave) – 105
Nana Nancy Unit (Tyler) – 59
Marshmallow Mateys (Cory) -106
The Almighty Muffins (Mike) – 90
Pacifists (John) – 100
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 117
Monday Night (Phil) – 74
The Cutlass Cieras (Chris W.) – 87
Suck for Luck 2012 (Aaron) – 100
Mr. T Fool! (Eric) – 64
Look out! Aaron’s team, once the doormat of the league, is on a winning streak! After acquiring underperformer Larry Fitzgerald from the Limbs this week, Luck saw Fitz explode for 26 points and Chris Johnson finally put together a decent game. Verdict: win #2. The Limbs, on the other hand, continued their up and down season with horrible totals from every player except the kicker. KRUG won this one in his sleep. JAWS also had an easy week as Nancy couldn’t put it together (and lost Schaub for the season). Nancy and JAWS have to be wondering if their ties are going to help or hurt down the stretch. The Cieras actually worked for their win this week over Monday Night, who got bit by the DeSean deactivation AND the Buffalo D’s -4 points. Then we have the Pacifists and the Muffins – two teams who seem to actually be the same team. This week, they took on two powerhouses and each lost while keeping it close. Fumblecopter trotted out Aaron Rodgers and the game was over. And the Mateys are starting to show a high-scoring offense to go with their shutdown defense. Scary.

Those little asterisks mean that the 8-2 teams have now officially clinched playoff berths. Three spots are still VERY up for grabs. Only 3 games remain in the regular season!

The PL is much less cut and dry. No clinchers yet and plenty of teams in the hunt. This week was wild and did NOTHING clarify the standings, plus we had some CRUSHING defeats. Scores:
Mean Regressors (Chris A.) – 102
Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 111
sasquatches r real! (Darren) – 101
The Alchemist (Chris T.) – 109
Waffle Housers (Nate) – 42
a couple 13 14 wins (Wayne) – 94
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 26
Glass Joe (Bernt) – 75
Blackhearts (Jon) – 96
McChamps (Tom) – 70
The Russell (Russ) – 87
diddy (Jim) – 91
Where to begin? I guess we’ll start with the Waffle Housers, who had a 6 game winning streak going until Wayne’s team put them on a plate this week! The Housers were one of many teams this weekend who got donuts from Gore AND Sproles. Tough to overcome that flukiness. Also tough to overcome, having McGahee, Julio, Lindell and Buffalo D all playing together this week (a total of -3 points). That’s what happened to the Nerd Herd. 26 total points. I can’t remember EVER seeing a final score like that. Bernt gets the easy win. The Regressors held a lead for awhile, but the Beer Boys trotted out Aaron Rodgers and the game was over. Tough loss for the Regressors. The Alchemists swears he’s on the edge of implosion, but the Ws don’t lie and this team is is currently alone in the #1 slot after edging out a feisty sasquatch team. Tough loss for the ‘quatches. The Blackhearts have strung together 3 wins at the right time, this time beating the McChamps handily. Jon is quietly climbing the standings. And I can’t quite wrap my head around what’s happening with The Russell. With one of the highest scoring teams in the league, Russ has lost 4 in a row – the last two by a total of 10 points. Diddy did just enough to steal the win this week. Tough, tough loss for Russ.

12. Mean Regressors 2-8-0 .200 808 981 L-3 $84 25
So no clinches, but those 5-5 teams hovering around the cutoff will have to work hard to make the cut. Again, 3 games left in the regular season!

team of the week logo.jpg
The Nerd Herd!!! Bob’s team distinguished themselves this week in their futility, much like our beloved Purple. . It was so disastrous that you can only shrug your shoulders and move on. As you can see, Bob’s always been a die-hard fan of the game and I know he’ll soldier on. Especially now that’s he got a HFFUBTotW Award under his belt!

As I’ve said already, there are only 3 games left in the regular season! Also, the trade deadline is this Friday, November 18th! Make your final offers this week before we shut it down and get ready for the playoffs.
This week, we have the last of the byes. These teams will be MIA: Indy, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Houston. Also, there’s another Thursday game this week! The Jets and Tebows…er..Broncos will hook it up to kick off the week.
The next 3 weeks will separate the men from the boys. This is where it gets real. Good luck to you all.
Until Next Week,
Commish Peter
