The NFL is jockeying for playoff positioning now as the season winds down. On Sunday night, the Cowboys looked like they had the game in hand. Then the Giants started doing things like this:
Keep in mind, Brandon Jacobs weighs about 250 pounds. Impressive. The Cowboys had a chance to win it, but the wheel started coming off. Prompting this:
“Time out, Jason!”
The Cowboys, of course, lost the game, making the playoffs more complicated for the ‘Boys.
In Hiawatha, the playoffs are NOW! The LoC bids are still up for grabs for most teams, but some tough losses have paved the road to the Premier league for some teams. Meanwhile, the top seeds sit on the laurels with a bye week, scouting the competition. A loss at this point, could be devastating.
There was a lot of drama in the LoC this week with close games, upsets and injuries. Here are the scores and implications:
JAWS (Dave) – 96
The Cutlass Cieras (Chris W.) – 80
KRUG Kommandant (Denny) – 85
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 100
Suck for Luck 2012 (Aaron) – 94
The Almighty Muffins (Mike) – 78
Monday Night (Phil) – 72
Mr T Fool! (Eric) – 129
In a back and forth game, the Limbs were down 4 heading into Monday night with their new defense (Seattle) still to go. In the 1st quarter, the Seahawks blocked a punt and returned it for a TD. Game. Over. The Limbs upset KRUG and advance to the 2nd round! It’s been a wild couple of weeks for the Limbs! Could they really repeat as champions!??! The Cieras had a tough week, getting only 6 points out of 3 RBs and fell to JAWS. KRUG and the Cieras will play next week with the winner keeping his LoC spot and the loser falling to the Premier League next year! Meanwhile, in the LoC Toilet Bowl, the Muffins watched in horror as Demarco Murray broke his ankle on Sunday night. The Muffins last hope was a big game from Murray. Without that, Suck for Luck notched a win and kept his dream alive for another week! Then there’s Mr T. Eric’s team finished in last place, but put up 129 points in his first Toilet Bowl game to destroy Phil’s squad! Do we have a Cinderella on our hands?! Can Eric climb all the way out of the Toilet Bowl and punch a ticket to the LoC for next year?!
So the LoC had two big upsets. Could the Premier League hope to match the drama? Here are the scores:
a couple 13 14 wins (Wayne) – 104
Waffle Housers (Nate) – 94
Blackhearts (Jon) – 95
The Russell (Russ) – 132
diddy (Jim) – 82
Mean Regressors (Chris A.) – 65
Glass Joe (Bernt) – 94
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 75
We knew that The Russell was better than his playoff seeding implied, but this?! Russ scored 132 (thanks in large part to Maurice Jone-Drew’s HUGE game) and clobbered the Blackhearts in round 1. Jon’s team put up a respectable 95, but it was all for naught. Russ advances to the 2nd round and Jon will have to fight for his LoC ticket next week. Wayne’s team had their hands full with the Waffle Housers, but pulled ahead with the Sunday night game and got the win. So Wayne’s team keeps winning and he will face the #1 seeded Beer Boys next week. And it will be the Waffle Housers vs. Blackhearts with the loser staying the PL for another year. In the Toilet Bowl, losses kill while wins keep the hope alive. Glass Joe kept his hopes alive by beating the Nerd Herd by 19. Diddy also got a win and dealt the Mean Regressors a fatal blow in the process. So Bernt and Jim will live to fight another day for a ticket to the LoC, while Chris and Bob will play one last game for the bragging rights that come with 11th place.
So the top seeds get back into action next week and will face off against some chippy squads looking for an upset! Should be a great week of football!
It’s Mr T, Fool! Eric finished the season with 7 straight losses, plummeting to the bottom of the standings and giving him a tough row to hoe in the Toilet Bowl. BUT, Eric then pulled himself up by his… gold chains?…and exploded for a huge win. Eric is now 2 wins away from punching a ticket to the LoC next year! That would be an incredible turnaround! Beat Tyler this week and John/Aaron next week and his season is saved! Just call him Cinderella.
Only two weeks to go in the season! This is when every point counts. It’s also when the NFL gets crazy with it’s schedule. This week we have a Thursday game AND a Saturday game. Thursday it’s the Jaguars and Falcons, Saturday it’s Cowboys and Buccaneers. Early roster moves are the key here. Also, I wanted to mention that in two weeks, our Championship week, the full slate of games is actually on Saturday and NOT on Sunday! For some reason, the NFL thinks that’s the way to go. There is still a Sunday night game, but all day games will be on Saturday the 24th that week. So be ready!
Until Next Week!
