2012 – Week 2

Sometimes in this game, things just bounce your way. You may stumble upon a player in a late round or on the waiver wire that really saves your team. And then other times, one of your highly touted players suddenly reveals himself as actually pretty terrible.

And then, two weeks in, you’ve got the injuries already piling up. Plenty of big names found themselves on the injury report and a bunch even took the week off. When the dust settled, only a few fantasy teams showed that week 1 wasn’t a fluke. Let’s break down the action, shall we?

The LoC could very well be a dogfight this year (too soon?). Only two games in and only 3 teams remain undefeated. Incredible parity here. Here are the week 2 scores:
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 118
Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 88
Blitzkrieg Bops (Mark) – 104
Lucha Libre Horrible (Nate) – 86
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 87
The Alchemist III (Chris T.) – 99
Cutlass Cieras (RIP) (Chris W.) – 110
Lightning in a Bottle (Wayne) – 61
Marshmallow Mateys (Cory) – 70
The Peacenik Hit-Men (John) – 85
I Have Arian Foster (Tom) – 102
Bye Week (Matt) – 60
Wyld Stallyns (Dave) – 67
Ready to Russell (Russ) – 73
The Limbs scored the highest score in the LoC this week after having to do some major roster movements to make up for injuries. With Gates and Garcon both out, the commish picked and plugged Mike Williams and Heath Miller, both of whom scored TDs. But it was 8th round pick CJ Spiller that exploded for 28 points and showed that injuries go both ways (sorry Fred Jackson). Hyatt never knew what hit him. The Hit-Men didn’t put up the huge numbers of week 1 again, but he still got a respectable win against Cory, who is now sitting in the cellar wondering where his mojo went. Another winless teams is Fumblecopter, whose 87 points weren’t enough against The Alchemist. Is Andy second guessing the Danny Woodhead pick yet? In Edwards Bowl I, Mark beat Nate thanks to Vick’s big game. The Cieras almost doubled their score from week 1, putting up 110 to absolutely demolish Wayne’s team. The other team to break the century mark was Tom’s Arian Foster-led squad, who crushed Bye Week by 42. And in a defensive battle, Russ’ low-scoring team met another low-scoring team and managed a 7 point win. He’ll take it. Russ now has the fewest points in the LoC on the season, but he’s 1-1 thankyouverymuch.

While the LoC is ruled by parity with only 3 undefeated teams left, the PL has 5 and had 5 teams break the 100 point mark this week. It looks like this league might end up top-heavy by the end of the regular season. Here are the scores:
Pulp Extrapolation (Chris A.) – 93
The Dominators (Spencer) – 145
Gyro Gearloose (Bernt) – 69
phillywindsurfin (Phil) – 94
The Matchless Muffins (Mike) – 74
KRUG Kommandant (Denny) – 106
Purple Pride (Carl) – 102
Nana Nancy (Tyler) – 106
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 75
El Tigre Chino (Darren) – 102
What!? (Eric) – 63
you want more juice? (Aaron) – 68
diddy (Jim) – 64
Blackhearts (Jon) – 88
After scoring a measly 63 points in week 1, Spencer re-calibrated his offense and got incredible results. He put up a whopping 145 this week to take down a feisty Pulp squad. It’s amazing what CJ Spiller will do for a team right now. The Dominators could live up to their name from here on out. In the most thrilling game of the week in either league, Nana Nancy hung on for a win against Purple Pride by 4 points. These teams were back and forth all weekend and Carl saw Roddy White and Jacob Tamme come up just short for him on MNF. Tough loss for the rookie. Phil and Keller continued their winning ways, easily beating Gyro this week as Trent Richardson finally lived up to his rookie hype. The Muffins find themselves in an 0-2 hole as they get Krugged this week by 32 points. In a similar drubbing, Nerd Herd got obliterated by El Tigre Chino. diddy had a rough showing this week as Blackhearts handily beat his 64 points. Darren McFadden’s 3 points aren’t going to cut it. And in another very close game, Aaron beat Eric by 5 points, but the two teams combined for 131 points, which is less than Spencer’s team total. Aaron is lucky he was playing Eric this week to join the 2-0 club!

The Dominators!! Spencer (a fantasy rookie) put up the highest score of the week and won his first game EVER! Coming off a tough week 1 loss made it even more impressive! Well done, Spencer!

Keep in mind that the NFL has scheduled Thursday games all season long. This week, it’s the Giants and the Panthers.
For you Premier League people, I had to make a scoring adjustment since apparently the special teams TDs counting for team defense rule didn’t carry over. By my estimation, this change doesn’t affecting any game outcomes so far this year, so that’s good. From here on out, special team TDs will give 6 points to the team defense. The League of Champions was set correctly from the get go.
One word about the Survival Picks game: Ouch. For those that don’t know, we started with 20 people picking one team to win each week. After this week, only 6 remain!! You can mostly blame the Patriots for inexplicably losing AT HOME to the lowly Cardinals. Even though many of us lost, you’ve got to hand it to the plucky Cards! Well done!

Until Next Week,
