2012 – Week 4

blast logo.jpg

After the replacement ref debacle reached the boiling point last week, the NFL stepped up and got a deal in place to bring the real refs back in time for the Thursday night game. And yes, they got a standing ovation from the Baltimore crowd. And it didn’t take long before the newly-empowered refs starting throwing their weight around.

We’ve missed you, Jeff Triplette.

This week also marked the first round of bye weeks and we also had some injuries that forced some roster shuffling. Heck, the Redskins had two guys get hurt in warmups and them miss the game. At least it wasn’t something stupid. Oh wait:

Ouch.

The LoC had two undefeated teams going into week 4, but only one teams was destined to remain that way! And Monday Night Football played a key role in TWO huge finishes! Here are you scores:

The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 84
Cutlass Cieras (RIP) (Chris W.) – 86

Blitzkrieg Bops (Mark) – 101
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 90

Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 95
Lucha Libre Horrible (Nate) – 93

Marshmallow Mateys (Cory) – 67
The Alchemist III (Chris T.) – 72

Unstoppable Machine (Tom) – 101
Lightning in a Bottle (Wayne) – 98

Wyld Stallyns (Dave) – 78
The Peacenik Hit-Men (John) – 104

Ready to Russell (Russ) – 99
Bye Week (Matt) – 84

Where to begin?! Well, Tom’s team (now dubbed Unstoppable Machine) had the lead when MNF rolled around, but Wayne was fielding Matt Forte and Robbie Gould from the Bears. They combined for 16 points, which left him 4 short of stealing the win! Tom remains undefeated and now is all alone at the top thanks to the Cieras! The Limbs cut Jay Cutler this week and started Jake Locker instead. Locker separated his shoulder in the first quarter and left the Limbs with 0 from the QB position! BUT, they were only down 6 going into MNF with the Cowboys defense to play against the exiled Cutler! Karma convergence! Cutler and the Bears humbled the ‘boys and the Limbs only got 4 points, so it was a 2 point win for the Cieras! Unbelievable! Then you had the Beer Boys vs. Lucha Libre. The game was tight going into MNF with Hyatt waiting on Brandon Marshall and Demarco Murray and Lucha Libre waiting on the Bears D and Dan Bailey! It was back and forth all night, but even with the Bears D scoring 24, Lucha Libre came 3 points shy of a win! Heartbreaking! The other close game was between the Mateys and the Alchemist, but it was a defense battle as the Alchemist kept the under-performing Mateys (reeling from Romo’s 5 INTs) from getting their first win on the year. The Bops won their 3rd in a row, beating Fumblecopter. Russell found a winning combination against Bye Week. And the Hit-Men kept up the scoring barrage, crushing the Stallyns and improving to 3-1.

Whew!

While the LoC had plenty of close games this week, the PL was all about the blowouts! One undefeated team went down, but the rest all hung tough. Here are the scores:
Pulp Extrapolation (Chris A.) – 52
Purple Pride (Carl) – 95
Gyro Gearloose (Bernt) – 79
The Matchless Muffins (Mike) – 91
The Dominators (Spencer) – 113
phillywindsurfin (Phil) – 83
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 78
KRUG Kommandant (Denny) – 108
What!? (Eric) – 104
Nana Nancy (Tyler) – 129
diddy (Jim) – 103
El Tigre Chino (Darren) – 60
Blackhearts (Jon) – 99
you want more juice? (Aaron) – 88
Once the Dominators got the week 1 jitters out of the way, they really starting putting it together! For their 3rd win in a row, they crushed the previously undefeated Phil by 30 points! Nana Nancy kept right on rolling too, striking down a valiant effort from Eric’s team to stay atop the league at 4-0 and averaging over 100 points each week! KRUG also kept the impossible dream alive, trampling the Nerd Herd by 30 points. Who can stop these two teams!? If not Spencer, my money’s on Jim. diddy had a big showing again this week, defeating El Tigre by a whopping 43 points and that was with McFadden only scoring 3 points! It was a much-needed victory for the previously-punchless Muffins this week. They got their first win on the season at the expense of Gyro Gearloose. The roster move of the week award has to go to the Blackhearts, who somehow have an inside contact with Bill Belichick. Jon picked up RB Brandon Bolden this week and Bolden proceeded to score 20 points on Sunday. His projection was 1. Aaron couldn’t withstand genius like that. And what a humbling week for Pulp Extrapolation, scoring only 52 and losing by 43 to Purple Pride. Yikes!

The Blackhearts! I covered this already, but Jon’s absolutely inspired move of adding Bolden was the difference in his game. I literally have no idea how he came to that decision! It’s almost not even fair.
