2012 – Week 5

Well, the Twins season is over and the baseball postseason has begun, but we all know that football still reigns supreme.

This week, the NFL had it’s share of blowouts and disappointing performances – particularly when it came to QBs. You had Vick’s miscues:

You had RG3’s concussion:

You had Peyton losing to Brady is pedestrian fashion:

And looking like he just got beat up by Macauley Culkin:

Even MVP candidate Matt Ryan got in on the action:

It was the WRs that had the incredible moves this week. From Percy Harvin’s tackle evasion:

To Reggie Wayne playing the best game of his career in honor of his ill coach and beating the Packers!

What a wild weekend!

In the LoC, there was plenty of drama as well and this week set up and HUGE matchup next week. Here are the scores:
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 87
Mashmallow Mateys (Cory) – 52
Blitzkrieg Bops (Mark) – 84
Cutlass Cieras (RIP) (Chris W.) – 106
Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 69
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 81
Unstoppable machine (Tom) – 114
The Alchemist III (Chris T.) – 64
Wyld Stallyns (Dave) – 41
Lightning in a Bottle (Wayne) – 88
Ready to Russell (Russ) – 110
The Peacenik Hit-Men (John) – 110
Bye Week (Matt) – 77
Lucha Libre Horrible (Nate) – 111
Going into Sunday night, John’s Hit-Men had built a sizable lead over Russ. But Russ still had Philip Rivers and Marques Colston to go on SNF. Colston put up the game of his life (31 points) and Rivers was slinging it all over the field to try to win it late. As time ticked down, Rivers gave Russ a 2 point lead! It seemed as though the upset was complete. BUT WAIT! As Rivers desperately tried to win the game, he coughed up a fumble and the Saints recovered it. The -2 points for a lost fumble snatched a tie from the jaws of victory for Russ!

Absolutely amazing finish! What a game! In comparison, the rest of the LoC was rather boring. All the other games were decided by 12 or more points! The Limbs kept the Mateys winless. The Cieras upset the Bops. Unstoppable CRUSHED the Alchemist by 50! The Stallyns only mustered 41 points in a huge loss to Lightning. Lucha Libre demolished Bye Week. And Fumblecopter, once a doormat, got it going this week and grabbed his first win of the year at the expense of Beer Boys!

The PL was also rather lopsided this week. Funny how that seems to happen! But there were a few nail-biters. Here are the scores:
Pulp Extrapolation (Chris A.) – 61
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 82
Gyro Gearloose (Bernt) – 76
Purple Pride (Carl) – 89
The Dominators (Spencer) – 67
The Matchless Muffins (Mike) – 66
What!? (Eric) – 103
KRUG Kommandant (Denny) – 68
diddy (Jim) – 97
Nana Nancy (Tyler) – 104
Blackhearts (Jon) – 90
El Tigre Chino (Darren) – 48
you want more juice? (Aaron) – 59
phillywindsurfin (Phil) – 141
The Muffins had their sights set on beating the Dominators and got out to an early lead, but when Monday rolled around Spencer was leading by 23. Now Mike was relying on his blue chip player (Arian Foster) to get the job done. Foster exploded out of the gate on MNF and Mike’s hopes were bolstered. At halftime of MNF, he was only down 7 points! But the gameplan changed for the Texans in the 2nd half and Foster only managed 6 more points, leaving Mike 1 point short of a tie. A crushing defeat for the Muffins! The other close game was between diddy and Nana Nancy. diddy got off to a GREAT start with Cruz and Charles, but Tyler answered back with Bradshaw and Brees and won the game in the end. Tyler has yet to lose this year and is one of only 2 undefeated teams in either league now! That’s because KRUG got killed this week. With a couple players on byes, KRUG had some tough roster decisions to make, but it didn’t matter what he did, Eric was destined to get this one. The rest are blowouts. The Nerd Herd got their first win of the year, thanks to Pulp. Purple Pride had no mercy and kept Bernt winless on the year. The Blackhearts ran roughshod over El Tigre and his 48 total points. And phillywindsurfin absolutely shellacked Aaron’s team by a whopping 82 points!! That has GOT to hurt. Aaron has now given up 498 points on the year! Gotta get that defense coached up!

We’re giving it to Ready to Russell! Russ had a formidable opponent this week and although he only held the lead for about 5 minutes, he still held it. Now a tie is something that can either help you or hurt you in the end. We’ll see how this tie effects the two teams going forward. Either way, it was a thrilling game!

More bye weeks and another Thursday game, so check your lineups.
I also wanted to remind you about the League Pick’em game. Remember, if your teams doesn’t perform well in the postseason, you’re bound of the lower league next year UNLESS you have the most pick’em points of those teams headed down. Then you can punch your ticket to the League of Champions for next year! So if you feel like your season is slipping away, make sure you’re giving it ago in picking the winners each week! As it stands, Eric is the PL leader with 18 points and Russ is the LoC leader with 21 points!
And remember to check out the current SuperStandings on the league site!
Until Next Week!
