2012 – Week 12

Thanksgiving week is always interesting in the NFL. You’ve got a bunch of teams playing on a short week on Thursday and then many of the games are between bitter rivals. This year, it also featured an amazing Sunday night game that saw the Packers get demolished by the defending champs (who hadn’t looked that good recently). Maybe Rodgers wants to re-think the facial hair. Either way, Packer fans can’t be happy with their current position in the standings. But they are often slightly delusional anyway.

And I’m just not going to mention the Vikings/Bears game.
Moving on…
The fantasy leagues have their first playoff clinchers after this week! But things are far from decided as far as seeding goes. Especially in the PL, where I have NO IDEA what’s going to happen come playoff time. Let’s get into it.

The LoC has 2 playoff spots left after the top 5 teams all won this weekend. Scores:
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 86
The Alchemist III (Chris T.) – 76
Blitzkrieg Bops (Mark) – 101
Lightning in a Bottle (Wayne) – 94
Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 85
The Hit-Men (John) – 100
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 49
Bye Week (Matt) – 76
Cutlass Cieras (RIP) (Chris W.) – 98

Rüssnôçérôse (Russ) – 74

Marshmallow Mateys (Cory) – 101
Wyld Stallyns (Dave) – 58
Unstoppable Machine (Tom) – 126
Lucha Libre Horrible (Nate) – 94
The biggest game of the week was between the Bops and Lightning, with the winner grabbing a playoff spot and the loser left to fight for his life next week. The Bops pulled out the 7 point win and are now in 4th position in a 3-way record tie. Lightning, on the other hand, now is a game back and tied with the Cieras, who notched a crucial win against Russ. The Cieras hold the points advantage over Lightning by a single point! The rest of the top teams all won, including the Limbs over the Alchemist, the Hit-Men over the Beer Boys and Unstoppable over Lucha Libre. Bye Week kept their slim playoff hopes alive by defeating Fumblecopter. They need a win and some help next week to get in. Fumblecopter finds himself in the cellar staring at the prospect of not making even the Toilet Bowl. 5 straight losses will do that to you. But the Mateys, once a cellar-dweller, have won 5 in a row and will likely contend in the Toilet Bowl. Look out!

Okay, so the PL is a major problem right now. There is only one playoff spot left to snag, but with two playoff bye weeks on the line, there is a lot of movement left to happen! Just wait until you take a look at the standings. But first, the scores:
Pulp Extrapolation (Chris A.) – 136
KRUG Kommandant (Denny) – 79
Gyro Gearloose (Bernt) – 82
Nana Nancy (Tyler) – 76
The Dominators (Spencer) – 100
El Tigre Chino (Darren) – 80
The Matchless Muffins (Mike) – 109
you want more juice? (Aaron) – 102
Purple Pride (Carl) – 61
Blackhearts (Jon) – 77
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 71
diddy (Jim) – 105
WHAT!? (Eric) – 90
phillywindsurfin (Phil) – 87
Pulp Extrapolation is incredible right now. They’ve reeled off 5 straight wins and this time they beat the top dog – KRUG. It’s a meteoric rise that has Chris’ team atop the standings. But, he’s got company. In fact, FIVE TEAMS are tied at 8-4 atop the standings. That’s thanks to some spoiler teams knocking off some tough guys. We mentioned KRUGs loss, but philly lost to WHAT!?, which left him saying HUH?! And Nana Nancy still can’t right the ship. This may be rock bottom as Tyler lost to Gyro Gearloose, a team that had only 2 wins on the year. diddy, on the other hand, won his second straight and claimed a playoff spot in beating Nerd Herd. Jim’s team has been hot and cold all year and the rest of the playoff field better hope he gets cold again soon. The Dominators got a much needed win this week to put themselves in position to get into the playoffs next week, but a quartet of 6-6 teams are hot on his heels. I won’t run all that down here. Just take a look at the current standings:
Rank Team W-L-T Pct Pts For Pts Against Streak Waiver Budget Moves
*1. Pulp Extrapolation 8-4-0 .667 1210 1067 W-5 $54 27
*2. phillywindsurfin 8-4-0 .667 1188 1000 L-1 $99 19
*3. KRUG Kommandant 8-4-0 .667 1156 1044 L-2 $34 15
*4. diddy 8-4-0 .667 1128 976 W-2 $26 14
*5. Nana Nancy 8-4-0 .667 1094 1021 L-4 $98 6
6. The Dominators 7-5-0 .583 1000 1017 W-1 $99 6
7. WHAT!? 6-6-0 .500 1049 999 W-2 $85 20
8. The MatchlessMuffins 6-6-0 .500 1008 1030 W-3 $18 37
9. Purple Pride 6-6-0 .500 980 972 L-2 $92 8
10. Blackhearts 6-6-0 .500 960 970 W-1 $99 11
11. you want more juice? 5-7-0 .417 1030 1151 L-1 $0 12
12. Gyro Gearloose 3-9-0 .250 928 1035 W-2 $61 18
13. Nerd Herd 3-9-0 .250 880 1080 L-4 $80 10
14. El Tigre Chino 2-10-0 .167 868 1117 L-5 $64 14
Dominators, WHAT!?, Muffins, Pride and Blackhearts all have a shot at that last spot. The Dominators will have to get past Nancy next week to win it and the rest will have to hope for his loss and their victory and right now the projections heavily favor Nancy. Next week will be wild!

Bye Week! Matt’s team has an awesome name and started out the year being a doormat(t), but after winning 4 in a row, he’s put himself in position to actually make the real playoffs! Who knows, winning this award may be the pinnacle of his run, but something tells me he could be a real factor in a couple of weeks.

There’s only one week left!!!! At this point, the best advice is don’t try to play a game that isn’t yours. Stick with what has been working and hope for the best.

We’ll see you when the dust settles next week!
Until Then,
