2012 – Week 13

I’m going to start us off with this gem of a run by our own Adrian Peterson. With over 200 yards and a TD on the day, you’d think that the Vikings upset the Packers at home and you’d be half right. Thanks to some miscues from the QB, the Vikings managed to not win a very winnable game and now are in big trouble when it comes to the playoffs.
There were other good plays from losing teams this week too. Like this Calvin Johnson grab in their narrow loss to the Colts:

And then you had this E for effort pass from Antonio Brown in the Ravens/Steelers game.

Whoops. Coach Tomlin, what do you think of the play?

Thanks, coach.
Now, to the real games. This was the last week of the fantasy regular season and many teams were still fighting for their lives in huge matchups to determine seeding and the last couple spots in the playoffs, while the other teams were just jockeying for position in the Toilet Bowl. We’ve got a lot to cover. Let’s go.

League of Champions logo.jpg
The LoC had two playoff spots up for grabs on Sunday and the rest was seeding. Here are the scores:
The Phantom Limbs (Peter) – 112
Lucha Libre Horrible (Nate) – 93
Blitzkrieg Bops (Mark) – 74
The Alchemist III (Chris T.) – 80
Beer Boys (Hyatt) – 107
Lightning in bottle (Wayne) – 112
Fumblecopter (Andy) – 64
The Hit-Men (John) – 94
Cutlass Cieras (RIP) (Chris W.) – 69
Bye Week (Matt) – 55
Marshmallow Mateys (Cory) – 125

Rüssnôçérôse (Russ) – 70

Unstoppable Machine (Tom) – 113
Wyld Stallyns (Dave) – 71
So the final two playoff spots went to Lightning and the Cieras. Lightning had a shootout on their hands with the Beer Boys, but they managed a 5 point win to secure the 5th seed. The Cieras, on the other hand, were locked in a low-scoring slug-fest with Bye Week, but did notch the win and the 6th seed in the playoffs. Matt’s late-season run was pretty, but it didn’t end well.

The only playoff-bound team that didn’t win this week was the Bops, who got nipped late by RG3 and The Alchemist. The Bops wind up in the 4th seed. The Hit-Men and Unstoppable tied up the top two seeds and a bye next week, easily beating Fumblecopter and the Stallyns. The Limbs have the 3rd seed after beating Lucha Libre and knocking in out of even the Toilet Bowl! Ouch. And every single playoff team is happy that the Marshmallow Mateys won’t be in their bracket. The Mateys have reeled off 6 straight wins and have looked fearsome in doing so. 125 points this week!

Alas, we bid fond farewells to Fumblecopter and Lucha Libre Horrible. Finishing in 13th and 14th place disqualifies them from playoff play. And looking at the Pick ‘Em standings, neither team has much of a chance to win a wild card back into the LoC next year. Thanks for a great year!

Now the PL had only 1 playoff spot remaining and a bunch of teams had shots to grab it. The Dominators had the inside track, but a knot of 3 teams behind them hadn’t given up hope. Scores:
Pulp Extrapolation (Chris A.) – 83
phillywindsurfin (Phil) – 95
Gyro Gearloose (Bernt) – 70
KRUG Kommandant (Denny) – 66
The Dominators (Spencer) – 84
Nana Nancy (Tyler) – 58
The Matchless Muffins (Mike) – 79
El Tigre Chino (Darren) – 83
Purple Pride (Carl) – 88
you want more juice? (Aaron) – 136
Nerd Herd (Bob) – 79
Blackhearts (Jon) – 64
WHAT!? (Eric) – 79
diddy (Jim) – 142
The Dominators had a “win and get in” attitude and took care of business, beating the comatose Nana Nancy. Tyler hasn’t won in over a month. But both of these teams are in the playoffs. The rest of the playoff teams shuffled a little with diddy stepping up to grab the 2 seed after CRUSHING Eric by 63 and ending Eric’s quest for the 6th seed. No one wants to play diddy right now and no one will next week since he’s earned a bye. Philly gets the #1 seed after ending Pulp’s winning streak. KRUG had a great shot at one of the top two seeds, but instead will be the 4th seed after losing to Gyro Gearloose this week! Gyro needed this win to make the Toilet Bowl bracket and got it! What a great win for Bernt’s long-suffering team! The Muffins thought they had a win in the bag this week and a shot at the 6th seed, but Darren’s squad had one more win in them this year and edged the Muffins by 4 to play the spoiler. Aaron’s team didn’t have a real shot at the playoffs, but his big win over Purple Pride won him a bye in the Toilet Bowl next week! And the Nerd Herd got a symbolic win this week over the Blackhearts to finish the year 4-9.

(8) WHAT!?

And so we say adieu to the Nerd Herd and El Tigre Chino. Both teams won their final games of the season, but it wasn’t enough to claw out of the last two spots in the standings. Of the two, Bob has the best shot at winning a wild card to the LoC next year by virtue of the Pick’em standings. Bob has 18 points on the year, so if no other team heading to the PL has more than that, he’s in. I’ll recap the system again in a minute.

We’re giving special honors to the four teams that have completed their seasons a little early. From the left: Bob, Andy, Darren and Nate. These four men fought valiantly and came up short. There’s always next year!

Okay, in case you haven’t looked at the playoff system yet, here’s how it works in relation to next year:

Inline image 7

Hopefully that’s clear of you don’t care that much.

Next week we’ll have fewer games, but the stakes are at an all-time high! It is now win or go home. In the playoffs, win a game and you’re insured a spot in the LoC next year. Lose and you risk falling into the PL. If you’re in the Toilet Bowl, only the strongest team will win their way out. So strap yourselves in!

Here we go!
Until Next Week,
Commish Peter
