2013 – Week 2

Inline image 1
Well, we’re now 2 weeks into the season and mirages are starting to materialize into trends. In other words, we’re starting to figure out who the players really are. In just the Vikings/Bears game we learned a little more about Christian Ponder. Here’s what happens when a running Ponder meets Lance Briggs:

WHAT A TWIST! Maybe they should move him to full back!
And speaking of the Vikings, can we get this guy the ball a few more times per game?!

But I think my favorite part of the Vikings game was the Ponder to Rudolph TD pass late in the first half:

Oh man, such a great looking play. Oh wait, that’s right. We couldn’t see it because of persistent technical difficulties.
There was also some technical difficulty getting the Niners/Seahawks game going on Sunday night due to a serious thunderstorm in the area. But once they got going, it was all ‘Hawks. They made it look easy at home against a very good team. Look out, NFC. You’d better hope that the ‘Hawks don’t get homefield advantage.

No technical difficulties in the fantasy leagues this week. Let’s get to the action.

The LoC featured a big matchup already in week 2 between the top two teams from week 1. Would Mike or Peter prevail? Here are the scores:
Final Results
Yes, Mike was able to squeak by with a 4 point win when Doug Martin’s late game yardage dried up too soon for Peter to pull out a victory. So Mike ascends to the top of the league with a 2-0 record and Peter drops to 4th. Only two other teams managed to remain undefeated in the LoC. It was Phil’s Monday Night team that dropped the Bops to 0-2 with a solid 106 effort. And then you have Russ, who kept the magic going from week 1 and hung 128 on Aaron’s team. That’s the second time in as many weeks that Russ has completely blown out his opponent. Keeping it close, it was Tyler defeating Denny by 4 points, 88-84, to get a win after a rough first week. Don’t say Knowshon Moreno never did anything for you, Tyler.

The PL also managed to keep 3 undefeated teams and a HFFL rookie is sitting atop the standings! Here are the week 2 scores:
Final Results

Sheesh, when you put up a ton of points, you usually want to need them all to win your game. In the case of Luke and the St. Paul Furballs, his 125 went against Bret and his measly 58 this week, easily doubling him up. Bret had a tough week, leaving 68 on the bench mostly from Sam Bradford and Tavon Austin. But who among us would have benched Drew Brees to give Bradford some run? So Luke is on top of the world and right behind him is Eric and his Eh Team, who knocked off Issac this week handily. Eric’s combo and Peyton and Julio was tough to stop again this week. In what could be the game of the week, Wachter was tangled up with Jake’s Outlaws, with both teams looking to go undefeated. In the end, the Cieras came from behind and snatched the victory behind Lynch’s HUGE Sunday night game. Jake is feeling that Vikings-style pain right about now.

It seems to follow that the EL would also keep only 3 undefeated teams, but who managed to hang on to their status? Here are the scores:
Final Results
The EL has the most rookies of any league this year and, lo and behold, 3 rookies are sitting atop the standings with undefeated records. Holding the top spot is Rodney, after absolutely dismantling the Nerd Herd behind a combined 50 points from Peyton and Marshawn. Rodney put the rest of the EL on notice this week – he is not to be trifled with. The Bob’s week 1 success dried up in a hurry as he went from 131 last week to only 78 in week 2. Ouch. Sitting in 2nd place is Chad, who clobbered Fumblecopter this week. And the 3rd place spot is held by Brett, who, unlike his fellow undefeated teams, prefers to win low-scoring affairs rather than overwhelming his opponents with high-scoring fireworks. And after a dismal week 1, Dan and his Goldfinches tweaked their lineup this week and it paid off in a big way: 122 points and a victory!
Current EL Standings:
Rank Team W-L-T Points Streak Waiver Moves
1 avatar Rodney’s Rad Team 2-0-0 242 W-2 12
2 avatar Chad’s Sunday Shame 2-0-0 203 W-2 11 1

The St. Paul Furballs! It has been confirmed that Luke Albertson is a Bears fan, but don’t let that fact deter you from congratulating him on a strong start to his HFFL career. Luke’s team is one of the top performing teams in the HFFL so far and his big win this week moved him into the Group of Nine undefeated teams. Not a bad way to start!

The Thursday games keep on coming. This week, we’ve got the Chiefs and Eagles.

There were plenty of injuries on Sunday, so that means that there are plenty of waiver wire guys who will be forced into active duty in the near future. If your team needs help, you’re going to have to get out there and find it.

Feel like your team is better than your record shows? Confirm your suspicions by checking out the All-Play Standings on hiawathafantasyfootball.com . They will be updated later today to reflect week 2 action.
Otherwise, we move ahead to week 3!
Until next week,
Commish Peter
