2013 – Week 7

Inline image 1
This past weekend in the NFL was FULL of injuries. Several top-tier players got knocked down and look to miss some considerable time. Players like Reggie Wayne, Doug Martin and Jay Culter. Cutler was hurt in a game that the Bears went on to lose to the Washington. It honestly didn’t look that bad at first, but the diagnosis is a torn groin muscle: ouch.

But lets look at some GOOD plays from Sunday. How about Calvin Johnson finally asserting himself and showing his dominance?
Inline image 2
How about this play where Miami receiver Brandon Gibson got some help on his way to the end zone from the Buffalo defenders?
Inline image 3
And how about them Chiefs? KC is the last undefeated team and QB Alex Smith pulled out this “fake” handoff for a TD to help beat the Texans:

If that play was really designed for him to stand there frozen and then run it in, then props to the Chiefs, because it sure looked like a broken play that worked out somehow. Andy Reid sure has has this team on a good run:

In the LoC, Russ remains undefeated this week, but would the Muffins bounce back from their tie last week? Scores:
Final Results
It’s true! Tom has been grandstanding all week long that the return of Gronk would push his team to new heights and he was right. Tom knocked off the once-mighty Muffins by 5 in a great game! Well done, Tom! Mike falls to 5-1-1. Atop the rankings, Russ is still undefeated after encountering little resistance from the reeling Limbs. Adding insult to injury, the Limbs lost their highest drafted player for the year when Doug Martin tore his labrum. Sure, hit a guy when he’s down.

Elsewhere, Randy Ableman has a winning streak after beating the Bops. Mark gambled that Nick Foles would have a good game and got burned. The highest score of the week belonged to Nana Nancy, who is building momentum from last week’s tie with the Muffins! And it’s Monday Night climbing all the way to 3rd place by virtue of a win over KRUG!

The PL was full of lopsided victories this week, but all eyes were on the Furballs who were locked in a tight game with the Cieras. Did the top team fall this week? Scores:
Final Results

In the clash between two top tier teams, the Cieras showed up ready to make a statement. They edged out the powerful Furballs by 4 in a great game! Matt Forte scored 3 TDs to help push the Cieras over the top. The other close game was Wayne beating Brett by 5 to move to 5-2 and join the knot atop the standings. The other team sitting at 5-2? The Eh Team, who crushed the Dream Team this week. And we have a rare win by Isaac and the Moneyballers! Isaac has had a tough season so far and this win over the Chobani moved him ahead of Cory’s team at the bottom of the standings. Well done, Isaac!

The EL has retained one undefeated team until now. Would Bret keep his incredible run alive against the Nerd Herd? Scores:
Final Results
The mighty have fallen! Brett’s dream of an undefeated season are crushed by the Nerd Herd! The Andy Dalton and AJ Green combo worked wonders for Bob’s team in route to the win and dropped Brett to 6-1 and out of the top spot in the standings. That spot now belongs to Chad’s Sunday Shame, now winners of 3 straight after beating the still-winless H-Ike’s Daddy. It was a much-needed and narrow victory for Harper’s team over the Bulldogs this week! And the same goes for Los Perdadores over Team Pacino. Pacino and the Bulldogs have the two highest cumulative point totals in the EL on the year, but have a combined 7-7 record. Strange. And look at Fumblecopter. Andy has put together a strong season so far and now sits at 5-2 on the year. Well done, Andy!

The Nerd Herd! This may have been the hardest week to choose a team in a long time. But in the end, the fact that Bob brought down one of the last 2 undefeated teams pushed him ahead of some other strong contenders. Bob has been at this HFFL thing for a long time and has had middling success (you can see his careers numbers at http://www.hiawathafantasyfootball.com), but there’s something brewing this year and his squad has a real chance to reach the LoC next year. Good job, Bob!

Incredibly, we’re over halfway through the regular season already! And with all these injuries, even the strong teams are looking vulnerable (except maybe Russ). Time for NFL teams to find out of their backups are worth their salt and time for fantasy teams to salivate over players they’ve never heard of before!
And it’s going to be especially difficult now in week 8 because there are SIX teams on byes! Chicago, Tennessee, Indy, San Diego, Baltimore and Houston all have the week off! The Thursday game is Panthers vs. Bucs. Probably a good idea to double check your lineups this week and make sure you’re squared away.
Until Next Week,
Commish Peter
