2013 – Playoffs Week 3

Inline image 1
Well, here we are at the end of the long fantasy season! 16 weeks of thrills and heartbreak have led to this – the final showdown for all the marbles! Three teams will walk away with the hardware and 12 teams will walk away with a ticket to the LoC next year! And this weekend showed that the NFL gives and the NFL takes away.
Tony Romo – constantly maligned for 4th quarter mistakes – broke the spell and won the game for his team on Sunday!

This camera man probably wishes he had just stayed home after this incomplete pass.

The Vikings lost a game that that didn’t matter to them and did it in the standard Vikings style – giving up tons of points, making a few mistakes, but also having lots of freak plays go against them – like this interception:

And the Seahawks suffered their first home loss of the season to…the Cardinals! The Cards were all over the Hawks all afternoon, forcing mistakes and frustrating Russell Wilson. Then they scored the winning TD as time wound down and held on to win!

Were there any late game heroics in the HFFL championship games this week? Who prevailed!? Let’s dive in.
Inline image 2
In the LoC, it was the 6th seeds Bops vs. the 5th seed DiDDy for the trophy! Which happy-just-to-be-here team will hoist it?!
Week 16 – Final Results
And it’s the Bops! With an incredible playoff run, Mark’s team edged out DiDDy by virtue of a late-game TD by Tony Gonzalez on Monday night! What a great ending to the LoC season! This is only Mark’s second year in the HFFL, but he’s already proved that he is a force to be reckoned with. DiDDy, on the other hand, had a great season and almost won it all. His consolation prize will be another shot at Mark next year in the LoC.
In the 3rd place game (whose winner will receive a ticket to the LoC), the Muffins got back on track and scored 107 to beat Russ’s tough team. Dev has to be kicking himself for losing last week as his point total would have beaten either of the Super Bowl teams this week.

In the Toilet Super Bowl, it was Unstoppable edging out the Assassins for the “crown” and earning a ticket to the LoC! Tom’s up and down season ended on a high note!
And finally, 9th place went to Ray Rice’s team.

In the PL, it was Wayne and Carl duking it out for supremacy. But the points were only trickling in for their game. Who got the better of the matchup? Scores:
Week 16 – Final Results

And it’s Wayne taking home the trophy! Wayne and Carl found that their players were having down weeks at the same time, which meant this would be a close game and a slugfest at that! In the end, it was Wayne who did enough to win the Super Bowl. Again, the 3rd place game teams were furious that they didn’t make it. But a good team can adapt to any game scenario and Wayne showed his mettle. Congrats, Wayne! For Carl, it seemed like when he was finally faced with the big game, things just didn’t go his way.

The 3rd place game wasn’t much of a contest as the USFL continued their late-season dominance and beat the Furballs for 3rd place and a ticket to the LoC! Matt changed his team name mid-year and ever since then he’s been on a tear! Luke’s season, in contrast, was pretty streaky all year. Huge weeks were followed by down weeks and he just had to hope his final game was a huge week. Alas, twas not to be.
In the PL Toilet Super Bowl, the winner was Isaac and the ShidabisMoneyballers! Incredible post-season run for Isaac’s team! There were plenty of weeks when people said this team didn’t quite know what they were doing (and those people were Isaac himself), but when it came down to crunch time they pulled themselves together and got the job done! Isaac earns a ticket to the LoC!
And in the just-for-pride 9th place game, the Outlaws clipped the Cieras and won bragging rights over 3 teams.

Winning LoC eligibility next year from the PL are Wayne, Carl, Matt and Isaac!

In the newest flavor of the HFFL, the EL title would be won be a rookie – but which one? Would it be Chad, who has pretty much dominated this league all year? Or would it be Dan, whose up and down season has led his team to the Super Bowl? Scores:
Week 16 – Final Results

It’s Dan and the Goldfinches! During the season, Dan often insisted that his draft was a disaster and that he had lots of roster work to do to get his team squared away. Well, he definitely put in some work to the tune of 53 roster moves. The next team had 26. All that finagling paid off in the end. Dan scored 103 to crush Chad in the Super Bowl. Dan will hoist the first-ever EL trophy! Chad will wait, patiently, for revenge next year in the LoC.

In the 3rd place game, it was another stomping as Team Pacino rolled up the points on Brett’s team – winning his ticket to the LoC! Brian’s squad could really put up the points when he needed to and this week he showed how strong he could be.
In the EL Toilet Super Bowl, the perennially underachieving Nerd Herd finally got the ball to bounce their way! Bob’s team beat Nudibranch to win his first-ever ticket to the LoC!!! It’s hard to cheer against a feel-good story like that. Although, I’m sure when Bob wins it all in the LoC next year, the rest of us will wish he had lost this game.

The teams of the week are our 3 champions! Congrats to Mark, Wayne and Dan on their victories! I wasn’t able to carve out time to ‘shop you all into a picture, so here’s this instead:

Well, the season is over and we look, briefly, to next year for a moment. Here’s how the LoC will tentatively look next year: Mark, Jim, Dev, Tom, Wayne, Carl, Matt, Isaac, Dan, Chad, Brian and Bob! For you guys, you have the offseason to ponder your draw. If you choose not to play next year for whatever reason, you can pass your ticket on to someone else. Remember, the LoC uses and auction draft format, not a snake draft.
The rest of the team will be completely shuffled and dealt into the two lower leagues, where they will begin their quest anew to get to the LoC. Until then, thanks for another great season, probably the best season we’ve had in the HFFL! Thanks for being active participants and making it fun for everyone who played! It’s been great!
Until Next Year!
Commish Peter
