Thanksgiving week is an important point in the NFL season. It’s the week that many teams play on Thursday and prove they are worthy of the big stage. It’s the week for statement wins and for teams that aren’t ready to contend to fade back.
On Thursday, Green Bay had the chance to build on their win last week and start to get the wagon rolling again. Unfortunately, the Bears weren’t going to let that happen and they beat Green Bay at Lambeau (in the most watchable game of the day). Sorry, Aaron.
The other Turkey Day games were blowouts as the Lions crushed the Eagles and the Panthers stayed undefeated, embarrassed the Cowboys and ended Romo’s season. Oh, and also someone rushed the field with a sign protesting… eating turkeys.
On Sunday, we got some good, old fashioned tomfoolery from Blake Bortles on this amazingly illegal forward pass.
And the Raiders really wanted to get some extra points before halftime and tried this fun-filled bonanza of laterals:
The highlight of the day came via ODB Jr., who hauled in this amazing catch for a TD before the Giants eventually lost the game.
And I went to bed Sunday night at the start of the 3rd quarter of the Patriots vs. Broncos feeling like the Pats would hang on. Apparently…. everything changed after that. First, Gronk got hurt and Brady realized he has very few receiving options left.
Then the Broncos took the lead before the Pats forced OT with a field gold. Then, CJ Anderson did this:
And it was game over! The Pats took their first loss of the season and the Broncos are 2-0 since Peyton went down with a foot injury. Hoo boy.
But enough with that. Let’s move onto the HFFL and penultimate regular season games! And it’s Revenge Week as teams face their week 1 opponents for a 2nd time with a chance to square things up!
In the LOC, Revenge Week was centered on Mark vs. Bret in a pivotal game with playoff implications! Scores:
So Malicious and HitMan were tied at 97 going into Monday night, where Bret was relying on Ravens TE Crockett Gilmore to push him over the top. It took until the 3rd quarter, but Gilmore finished with 20 yards, just enough. It was blow to Mark’s team, who slides down to the 4th position for now, but does clinch a share in the playoffs. The Hit Man had his sights set on the top slot, but The Eh Team continued their influential run by beating No Money Manziel. That’s 6 straight wins for Eric!
The Limbs leaned on Calvin Johnson and scored 115 to beat And He’s Loose!!! and climb to the 3rd spot and clinch their berth. The Limbs are now the highest scoring team in the LOC, which could come into play for seeding. The Finches desperately needed a win and got it this week, by a single point over Butterslide, and clinched a spot at 8-4. That means there’s only one playoff spot not yet spoken for. WOLYA nothing is in the driver’s seat after crushing The IR this week. A win next week and the defending champ has a shot to repeat. Of course, he’s playing The HitMan next week who beat him 112-110 in week two! Also participating this week, The diddy beat #CutTheCheck by a point for his 3rd win.
Current LOC Standings:
So will it be WOLYA or Butterslide in the 6th seed? Tom plays Bret while Joel faces The Eh Team. Two tough matchups next week!
The EL is not for the faint-hearted right now. With 3 playoff spots still available with 1 week to go, this shaping up to be a fight to the finish! Scores:
What is happening to the Cieras?? The once-vaunted squad managed only 49 points this week in a huge loss to The Farce. The Miller/Gurley/forte RB platoon scored a total of 7 points this week, which there’s really no coming back from. The hardest thing about this loss is that the Cieras left NINTY points on the bench. Oof. The Farce clinches a playoff spot and the Cieras are stranded in no-man’s land for the time being with a tenuous grasp on the 6th spot. How you feelin’, Wachter?
The Mateys and Randy Ableman had tune-up wins this week over Sesquipetantic and Turn Down, respectively. He-Man was hoping to punch his ticket to the playoffs, but the Comeback Kid continued playing the spoiler and squeaked by with a 1 point win! And that’s when Nudibranch took advantage and beat Last Place to move to 8-4, tied with He-Man. But those two teams both look the part of playoff participants. Next week will come down to Hashtag and the Cieras, I think. Hashtag is fighting hard these days, beating Darren’s 2WIN$ this week. So what does the schedule hold? The Cieras play…gulp… The Mateys next week while Hashtag faces Nudibranch. *chills*
Current EL Standings:
If you thought the EL was madness, you haven’t looked at the standings in the Premier League.
I don’t even know what to say. Let’s just look at the lopsided scores:
We begin with the Revenge of the Raiders! The Tusken Raiders lost to the Muffins by 10 to begin the season. They never forgot. When they had a chance to strike back, they took it and crushed the Muffins this week. It was a fairly meaningless loss for Mike’s team, who has a pretty firm grip on the top seed at this point. Still, the Raiders really DID need this win to position themselves for a potential playoff clinch. Because, oh by the way, only the Muffins are confirmed at this point! Your two best bets at this point are Flanders and Nana Nancy, both winners this week over Wonky and Hugginkiss. Wonky is now part of The Fateful Four – four teams at 7-5!!! Mighty Mouse Rat is in there, courtesy of a win over KRUG. Nerd Herd is in there, thanks to The Dominators. Even Hugginkiss has a chance to make that tie work for him! Next week will be very, very crazy. And….. congrats to Polska!!! Sam’s team won their 2nd game of the year in style, crushing Russ with 126 points!
Current PL Standings:
Shout out to the Tusken Raiders! For HFFL Rookie Andrew, this really was Revenge Week. In week 1 of the season, Andrew was bested by the Stale Muffins and he never forgot. This week, he returned the favor and beat the top team in the PL handily (in spite of Dez Bryant’s continuing disappointment)! I mean, his kicker got him 19 poitns!! Well done, Andrew!
The Stale Muffins view from this weekend:
So if it wasn’t already abundantly clear, this is the final week of the regular season! Next week at this time, some of you will be playoff bound! Others … well… the Toilet Bowl awaits.
So much is still up for grabs! And remember, even Toilet Bowl teams have a shot at the LOC if they win out!
Thursday night brings Revenge Week to Detroit as the Lions host the Packers (who they beat at Lambeau, remember?). And there are NO bye weeks left to worry about! Yay!
So man up and make this last week count! Good luck!
Until Next Week,
